Christmas Adoption Policy

For all parents whose children have been asking for a new kitten on Christmas day, we want to let you know that we do not adopt kittens in the ten day period before Christmas and we do not adopt kittens under 5 months of age singly, only in pairs. We believe this policy avoids putting the cat/kitten in a temporary ‘hiding place’ that stresses them greatly and then introducing them into the household on a hectic and noisy Christmas morning. Family introductions need to be done during a time of relative quiet and peace. A kitten/cat is not a toy but a live creature that must be planned for.

But — Please fill out our online adoption form NOW to get the process started.   You’ll be approved before Christmas and we can set up an appointment for the day after Christmas or a time that is most convenient for you and your family.

We make ourselves available the day after Christmas and during that week after so you can bring your children to the shelter and let the child and cat discover each other.  This will enable you to pick out a cat/kitten that is well suited to your children.

We suggest that you wrap up kitty items such as a feeding bowl, litter box and cat toys.  Include a note in the middle of all these items telling your child that the real Christmas present is a trip to the shelter to pick out their very own kittens or their cat.
